As I wrote few days ago in the “NVIDIA GTX 1070 Ti – the new crypto mining king?” article – I ordered 8x GTX 1070 Ti and I was very curious about their performance. Now that I’ve assembled the rig and run some miners on it, I’m even more excited – in fact I ordered another 8x rig and then another 6x 1070 Ti! They are awesome! But first things first!
I guessed that they will be less hungry than the pure 1080, but after some tweaking – locking them on 931 mV with Afterburner and setting their core speeds to 1873-1898 MHz (even though they are same cards, there are some differences using the same offset, nearly 100 MHz spread with same offset), and the memory at +500 (mostly because Ethereum, now that I don’tmine it I will lower the memory speed) without TDP limit (considering the locked voltage) – which they never reach anyway, most of the cards are sitting between 150 and 155W draw in most algorithms. From what I see in the Afterburner, they are using 80-83% TDP, and as low as 63% in Ethereum, and these are not the best values you can achieve, just the quickest after 5 minute clicking through the options.

Ethereum mining with GTX 1070 Ti – 32+ MH/s
I’ve no idea why would you do it, unless you want to hodl Ether (but then you can coonvert anything and just buy it!), but the using the settings above and +550 mem speed, GTX 1070 Ti manages to pull out more than 32 MH/s mining Ethereum, which puts it nearly on par with GTX 1080 Ti with the same miner, and A LOT higher than the pure GTX 1080. All that with some 63% TDP with locked voltage. One of the guys in the forum I often visit told me he’s mining at 100W per card (measured at the wall) for over 31 MH/s, so thee is a room for improvement if you are into it.
Equihash mining with GTX 1070 Ti – 515-520 sol/s
Mining Bitcoin Gold, as much as I hate BTG, is often more profitable than mining Zcash, ZEN, Komodo and Hush.Using the same settings as with the Ethereum, the cards sit comfortably at around 150 watts sporting around 515-520 sol/s, witha room for improvements to spare. Considering teh pure GTX 1080 makes 550-570 with best conditions and at about 180W, that’s a performance well worth the price difference between the cards.
Lyra2rev2 mining with GTX 1070 Ti – 49.5 MH/s
Lyra2v2 performs great on the GTX 1070 Ti, about the level of performance you can squeeze from the pure GTX 1080 (52.х MH/s). This algo is among the most profitable becauseof VTC and MONA using it and 6x 1080 Ti would be a bit better than 8x 1070 Ti, but the difference is small and depends on the clock speeds.
NeoScrypt mining with GTX 1070 Ti – 1.16 MH/s
Using ccminer 2.2.2 I got some hickups on new, and I guess there would be a miner better suited for the stuff (I’ll let you know after some experiments), but this is still impressive and makes it one of the top choices for mining right now. When I limit the cards to 90% TDP, the miner hanged and I had to restart it. Leaving the mx TDP unlimited (120%) fixes the issue, but the cards start drawing that much more power.
Blake2S mining with GTX 1070 Ti – 520 MH/s
While sitting comfortably under the 5500 MH/s the GTX 1080 manages, the 1070 TI works well for Blake2S (namely mining XVG). With intensity 31, I doubt there is much more to squeeze, but bumping the speeds to over 1900 MHz should help achieving stable 5.15+ GH/s here.
Skein mining with GTX 1070 Ti – 520 MH/s
Again, skein scales with CUDA cores, so no surprises here.
I haven’t tried the GTX 1070 Ti with x17 and xevan, both are profitable but only mining at Zpool and Hashrefinery kind of makes them limited. I also couldn’tmake tyhem work inside Awesome miner and I’d prefer to keep the autoswitching. Nevertheless, I will copy and start miners just to see how they work, considering the fact bot have been more profitable compared toEquihash most of the time, may be it’s a good idea to try.
UPDATE: x17 is fine at over 14 MH/s. Makes it as profitable as the top crop of the algos long term, although I’d have to use Zpool for it.
Another UPDATE: xevan is also among the top crop, but a bit lower than x17 – 4.1 MH/s, with a choice of Zpool and Hashrefinery having autoexchange for BTC.
The GTX 1070 Ti makes me happy as I can build 8 card rigs with two cheaper or one big PSU and pretty much ignore the limitations to power draw – even at peak it barely scratches 180W, and there are instances it consumes less than 150, for a return typical of 1080(or better in some algos, like Ethash) and even chasing the 1080 Ti. Also, there is the difference in the price – 419 euro +VAT vs. 639 + VAT for the 1080 TI, or some 80 euro more for the regular and less flexible 1080 makes the 1070s great choice, and it’snot shy of any algorythm, as it either performs according to the core scalability, or better when the memory is important. The Equihash comparison makes it especially important choice vs. pure 1080s, which perform similarly or a just bit better (but with more hassle). Vs. 1080 Ti-for every two1080 Ti I can get 3 1070 Ti, meaning it would outperform them absolutely everywhere. On per rig basis, building 8 card 1080 Ti rigs requires careful power management on even the best of PSUs, and jumping on 1300+ watt power supplies which are the next most expensive thing in a rig, would force the choice towards 1070 Tis even more. You should only consider density if you have problems with space, of course but it’sa factor and part of the investment.
